Chiropractic Care
Dr. Wasteneys has been a practicing chiropractor since 1999 and believes in the use of chiropractic care to emphasize the inherent recuperative power of the body. Chiropractic care exploits this self-healing without the use of drugs and surgery making it a safe, non-invasive treatment method.
All of Dr. Wasteneys’ appointments are a minimum of half an hour (1/2 hr) long to ensure comprehensive and attentive treatment and to maximize the success to long term health.
Active Release Technique (ART)
ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Dr. Wasteneys commonly combines both traditional chiropractic care and ART in his treatment and has seen repeated success with this method.
ART is used to treat a variety of common repetitive stress/use injuries. When muscles are overused, they undergo physiological and morphological changes – specifically over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change due to three important ways:
- acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc)
- accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
- not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)
Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness. (Active Release Techniques website)
During treatment, the ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.
Custom Fit Orthotics
Dr. Wasteneys is proud to offer Footmax custom orthotics. Footmax’s computerized gait and pressure analysis system, Metascan©, analyses foot function when a patient stands, walks, or runs and provides a computerized gait analysis report. This is superior to the stationary cast method. The Footmax report, combined with Dr. Wasteneys clinical assessment, is used to ensure the creation of effective personalized multiuse orthotics .
Footmax offers orthotics for a wide range of shoe styles including dress shoes, running shoes, soccer cleats, cross country ski boots, and many more.
